Father Antonio Hernández Oliva was the parish priest of the Church of St. James the Apostle and Our Lady of Sorrows in Palo Blanco for over 30 years. The popular initiative to commission and finance this bust was undertaken by the Viera y Clavijo Circle Society through a public fundraising campaign, which was further supported by the Los Realejos City Council and the encouragement of the aforementioned parish community he served.
