Saborea Tenerife offers gastronomic sampling events across the different municipalities of the island with the aim of improving existing supply and providing the sector with new opportunities to improve the gastronomic choices for visitors to the island. These events always focus on a star product.
For obvious reasons, in Los Realejos our star product has to be the Bonita potato. Five hundred years after being introduced into Los Realejos, this staple part of our cuisine has turned Icod el Alto into the potato hub of the Canary Islands.
Thanks to the efforts of farmers in Icod el Alto, Palo Blanco and Las Llanadas, there is still a wide selection of different varieties that have disappeared from the other islands.
Every year in July the town hall of Los Realejos organises the gastronomic sampling event of the Bonita potato to celebrate the arduous efforts of its local farmers.
