Tigaiga Wash Basins

The presence of a natural spring streaming from a barbuzano tree [the Canary laurel] in the area favoured the canalisation and distribution of water to ponds, troughs and wash basins.

The Tigaiga wash basins, cited in documents dating from the 17th century, were declared of public utility by the Island’s Government in 1701. These wash basins were in use until mid 20th century, when the volume of water started to decrease. Its state of neglect made restoration works necessary.
