Araucaria heterophylla: Norfolk Island pine
Conifer belonging to the family of the Araucariaceae it stems from Norfolk Island (Australia). It is an evergreen tree with a conical shape that can reach considerable heights, namely up to 70 metres, although its growth his slow. Even so it is often cultivated indoors. It has a perfectly symmetrical pyramidal shape with horizontal branches growing from the same plane, forming floors.
The leaves are scale like and small arranged forming geometric branches.
While the flowers are of little interest, the sub-global cones are, which are 12 cm long and 9
thick and produce winged seeds of 3-6 mm in length.
It requires a lot of light, although young plants adapt well to shades, prospering in th eexterior when temperatures are warm.
