The old people say that it is possible to hear in the deep ravines of La Gomera the echo of the last whispers of the two lovers: Gara, the princess of Agulo, the place of Water and Jonay, the son of the Tenerife Mencey of Adeje, who came from fire.
During the night of the bonfires and the celebration of the collection festivities, Gara and Jonay met and then felt a new and pure love, which grew inside their bodies and crossed their hearts.
To Gara, fire had shown her that after four moons, love would come through the sea, so it was, but after meeting Jonay, the smoke and other signs pointed to what seemed a beautiful love, through the eyes of the lay people it will bring only misfortune to the island, thus the family of the lovely native woman would not allow such a risk, though it meant breaking her heart.
After coming back to Tenerife, Jonay felt sorrow covered his soul so he decided to return in great secrecy to the Columbus Island, but this time he would do it by swimming, if his love was true, his arms could overcome any storm or dangerous stream ... Maybe the noble people and the wise Gomero people would reflect on it blessing the couple, but the immovable refusal of their parents kept impassive.
The lovers wanted to touch the sky to get the summit of the island that Gara knew very well, to mark his love in that magic setting, in the sacred rock, surrounded by the stars ... therefore his love would be everlasting. Over the summit, the princess consulted on the oracles and once again they warn her that her love in that land would never prosper. One look between them was enough, the expected union of their bodies took place, with tenderness and passion, with caresses ever never they dreamt, they fell down like in a dance towards the emptiness, there would never be misfortunes and thus they would confirm that love would survive farther than their bodies.
Already today people listen to the echoes of their hearts among the round sections of that rock mountain of Alto of Garajonay, the eternal for them, since 1986 was regarded as Humanity Heritage and since 1989, one of the most important National Parks in Europe.
With the aim at recalling such a beautiful story, we will repeat that journey assisted by the some trade winds that one day helped Jonay to achieve such a kind of heroic deed.
Three paramotor pilots will try to do that sport deed. Flying over the Atlantic Ocean in Los Realejos (Tenerife) to Agulo (La Gomera): Ramón Morillas, César Maldonado and Francisco Renedo will form a team to get that important sport challenge, in case of achieving it successfully it will be added to the ones obtained during the I International Paragliding Festival in the Orotava Valley, that took place last year.
Don’t miss it !!
