Coastline area

This strip of the coastline of the municipality, well – known as Rambla de Castro and that spreads out from La Romántica place to the one of Las Aguas, inside the municipal borders of San Juan de la Rambla, which is a setting for the banana plantations, whose name is given by the Portuguese man Hernando de Castro, a co – worker of the conquistador Fernández de Lugo, who was given lands in those places.

The viewpoint of San Pedro, next to the main road which goes to Icod de los Vinos, let see a wide panoramic view of the coastline dotted with family seats among them we stand out, from the right side to the left:

The country estate of Castro (or so –called “Mayorazgo”). It is the main and most ancients of them. It was raised by the already mentioned Hernando de Castro in the beginning of the XVI century. The current building belongs to the XVII and XVIII centuries with further contributions. It was surrounded by a wide landscaped area, which fell over a leafy ravine next to the Castro beach or the one of “El Camello”. Gardens which have been visited and admired by many visitors and scientists of the XVIII and XIX centuries such as Berthelot, Leclercq, Wangüermert, etc, and nowadays it has little to do with that lovely past. In the other side of the ravine it stands out the small fortress of San Fernando, next to the sea.

The country estate of “Las Cuatro Ventanas”. It is an interesting building of the XVIII century raised by the Viscount of Buen Paso, Mister Cristóbal del Hoyo Solórzano, writer and erudite man.

The country manors of “Las Chozas”, “Siña Benita”, “El Socorro”, “La Torre”, “Ruíz” have got the same chronology. The wooden pieces and the masonry walls stand out as the most relevant characteristic.

The country manor of El Cuchillo raises over the mountain cliff, which ends in Rambla de Castro. Its foundation dates from the XVII century.
